expanded with newIn January of this year, the Grant County Public Library implemented a new web-based library management system. Auto-Graphics’ AGent Verso is custom-designed for public libraries and focuses on the end-user experience. The Grant County Library’s card catalog is available online and may be accessed from any internet-ready computer. Patrons may not only search for books, but also have access to enhanced features such as book jacket art, content summaries and title reviews. Furthermore, through the OPAC (online public access catalog), patrons can seamlessly access both state and local resources relating to interlibrary loan and federated search of State Library databases through a single interface. The Illuminar application also provides an appealing, icon-based Kids’ Catalog with easy searching for children and young adults.
One of the most distinctive applications of this web-based system is the Patron Account module that authorizes patrons to set up and personalize their individual accounts. The Patron Account feature allows patrons to place reserves on materials, check their borrowing and fines activity, create reading and author lists, view recent searches and checkout history, & import web links for quick reference. Another convenient feature is the Active Alerts setting where patrons may request a weekly e-mail notice reporting the status of their account including due dates, reserved materials, and fine activity.
