LINCOLN: THE CONSTITUTION AND THE CIVIL WAR
- a National Humanities Exhibit-
The exhibition consists of five separate, free standing sections that bring into focus the secession of the Southern states, slavery and wartime civil liberties. The exhibition encourages visitors to understand the Civil War as a test of the US. Constitution, to consider Lincoln’s options through his own eyes and to reflect on the significance of that great 19th-century confliction for Americans today.
The traveling exhibit examines how President Lincoln used the Constitution to confront three intertwined crises of the Civil War -
* the secession of Southern states
* slavery
* wartime civil liberties

Schedule of Events:
Grand Opening: Saturday, March 3rd 10:30 a.m. - Meet Mr. Lincoln! (Stan DeHaan) He will give a special presentation at 10:30 and be available to visit with guests until 1:00 p.m.
Scholarly Presentation: Thursday, March 22nd 6:30 p.m. - Mr. David Grettler, Professor of History from Northern State College will be leading a scholar discussion on the Civil War at 6:30 p.m. This session is recommended for adults and high school students.

exhibition for libraries, was organized by the National Constitution Center and
the American Library Association Public Programs Office. The traveling
exhibition has been made possible by a major grant from the
National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association.
Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War is based on an exhibition of
the same name developed by the National Constitution Center.
